We are pleased to announce that the January 2025 issue (No. 1) of Actualidad Administrativa has published an article by Alejandro Araújo Barceló, titled:
\"Integrated Management? of the Coastline and Climate Change Adaptation Measures and Their Impact on Economic Activities: Some Reflections on the Draft Law on the Integrated Manafement of the Balearic Islands\' Coastline\".
Several coastal autonomous communities in Spain are promoting legislative initiatives aimed at improving the planning and management of their coastlines, an inherently complex area due to the dispersion of competencies and the strong interplay of social, economic, and environmental interests. In the Balearic Islands, high-quality coastal management is crucial, making the Draft Law under analysis in this article particularly relevant.
In this study, Alejandro Araújo examines the foundations of the integrated management model that the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands aims to implement along its coastline. The article explores the aspirations of this approach, which seeks to overcome obstacles arising from the intense fragmentation of competencies and the sectorization of public policies related to the coast. Additionally, it assesses the model’s main limitations, particularly the challenge of effectively integrating the State, which owns the public maritime-terrestrial domain and plays a fundamental role in defining climate change adaptation strategies.
We hope this analysis contributes valuable insights into coastal management—an issue of great complexity, yet essential for the future of our islands.
This type of publication further establishes Araújo & Benetti as a leading reference in coastal law and climate change adaptation projects in the Balearic Islands.
